The day with Sebastián, Scott's chess challenger's son, and the gauchos was exhilarating and exhausting. Sebastián had a sharp wit, unlimited energy and a temper that blew in and out like the wind. Scott smiled at the similarities of someone else he knew so well.
Scott enjoyed the work of corralling the cattle and the wild horses. However, he almost hung himself trying to master the bolas.
At the end of the day Sebastián's sister offered an invitation to stay for the evening meal. Afterwards, as Scott smoked a cigar with the old man and stared at the stars, he realized how much he missed Lancer.
It was time to go home.
