Cape Horn

Updated: Apr 14, 2023

February 1870 - Scott understood that the passage around Cape Horn was going to be a rough one but nothing could have prepared him for several days of the crashing waves and winds that blew into his bones. Food was not an option; neither was sleeping and the feeling of loneliness was consuming. Like during his days spent in the Confederate prison camp, Scott thought, “If I’m feeling this miserable it means I’m still alive.”

Finally the day after rounding the horn, the waters sighed and the winds decided to calmly guide him home. The Enchantress had kept him safe and Scott unexpectedly felt closer to the mother who he only knew through snippets of stories and faded photographs.
