He couldn’t remember being so damn happy to be standing in the middle of San Francisco. Once securing The Enchantress, Scott made his way to the telegraph office to send word to Murdoch he would be arriving in Stockton at the end of the week. He made the decision to stay in the city a few days to rest up and get his land legs back before traveling home.
As Scott submitted his message to be sent, the telegraph clerk in turn handed Scott an envelope displaying Johnny’s handwriting.
Upon opening the letter, Scott let out such an abrupt laugh it startled the older woman standing beside him.
“How can I stay mad?” he asked the stranger.
Not having the slightest idea what to say, the woman simply responded, “I guess you can’t!”
Scott asked the clerk to return his message. He needed to revise it before being sent. Scott would be on tomorrow’s morning train to Stockton.
